Day 55

Morning found us at Old Fort William, a reconstructed fur trading post from the Northwest Fur Company. Sam was truly in his element, engaging the clerks in the warehouse in lengthy conversations, visiting the bakery, where the bread was just ready to go in the oven, and the obligatory visit to the blacksmith.

Some other highlights were the kitchen where they had a gear driven self-turning spit and a hand cranked coffee mill ; taking a turn with the dancers in the main square (they invited the kids to dance with them and Sam joined in - Sarah was too shy...) , and enjoying a bowl of voyageur beef stew in the Cantina for lunch.

Leaving Thunder Bay, we drove two sleepy campers up to Dryden to Huber's Lone Pine Lodge, where our intrepid fishermen hooked a big one (18 inch Northern Pike) while fishing off the dock before we retired for the night. (The fish was thrashing around while Sam took this picture of me and since I was more concerned about him backing up and falling off the deck while he took the picture I didn't ask him to take another one...)
