Day 46

The morning got a slow start as the late night firefly hunt took its toll, but once Sam got out of bed (10:00) we started to get things rolling. The kids didn't want to leave their cousins, and spent the morning entertaining them (and their aunt and uncle.)

Dan and I were loath to leave the sunny warmth as well, especially to venture out into the day's downpour, but a break in the weather gave us the impetus to get back on the road.

We traversed the length of scenic (and touristy) Lake George to it's northern point and then visited Fort Ticonderoga.

We arrived just in time to see the Fife and Drum Corps on the parade ground.

We then toured the battlements where Sarah found some of the cannons to be "just my size!!!" Sarah also led the way as we explored the ruins of the powder magazine and bakery.

The hilight of the museum was a 3-D wooden puzzle where the kids could reconstruct the fort and surrounding fortifications.

Heading out into the approaching evening, we traveled almost to the Canadian border before stopping for the night in Ellenburg, NY.
