Day 2 -

We descended from our mountaintop campground to finish our tour of the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Highway. From Rowena Crest to the Dalles, we wound our way from Plateau to Canyon. The kids spotted alpine wildflowers in yellow, white, purple, and blue. |
Heading south, we made our way through the foothills and flatlands of eastern Oregon. The Afternoon found a break in the clouds and brought us to Baker City and the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. After visiting the displays and hiking a small portion of the trail, we were awed by the immensity of the undertaking of the pioneers. Just standing alone, surrounded by the rolling hills of sagebrush and hearing a silence so palpable, it was deafening. We all decided that making it through the Oregon Trail was not for us. |

We finished off the day chasing the rainbow connection into Idaho where we camped alongside the Boise River. |
After dinner, Sam and Sarah took a walk outside to feed the ducks and throw rocks in the pond. |
