Morning dawned sunny and crisp. After a stroll to feed our leftover pancakes to the ducks, the three intrepid fishermen (Dan, Sam, and Sarah) headed off for the bass pond while mom headed to the laundry. |
A quick stop in Boise to get a new camcorder to replace the broken Sony, and for Dan to get a high-tech fix, then it was off to the 1000 Springs Scenic Highway. From fossil beds to underground springs through lava fields, the earth gave us a graphic lesson in geology. |

The last stop of our day was Shoshone Falls. Taller than Niagra, the roar of the water shook the observation deck. We were lucky to see the falls in full flow; most of the year the water is diverted for irrigation. For the kids, learning to roll down the hills at the park was the best part of the day. |
We camped for the night along the banks of the Snake River. Sam and Sarah learned how to feed carrots to the horses while we cooked hamburgers on the grill and listened to the marshbird calls as we drifted off to sleep. |
