Banff National Park was originally named Rocky Mountain Park but the name was changed after Banff townsite became the most famous part of the park. However, we were not that impressed by Banff townsite because of the rash commercialism (i.e. tourist traps). On the other hand, Lake Louise was a beautiful wilderness retreat with very few signs of commercial development.

At the Visitor Center, Sam found a map showing the location and size of all of the mountains and lakes in the region. He liked looking up the names of each spot by finding its number on the map.

This is a picture of one of the Vermillion lakes with the mountains in the background. I really liked the way the shadows fell on the mountainsides and the contrast in the clouds.
