Songs from The Outback

Waltzing Matilda

Once a jolly swagman sat by a billabong.
Under the shade of a cooliba tree.
And he sang as he watched
and waited 'till his billy boiled.
You'll come a waltzing matilda with me.

Chourus
Waltzing matilda, waltzing matilda
You'll come a waltzing matilda with me.
And he sang as he watched
and waited till his billy boiled.
You'll come a waltzing matilda with me.

Along came a Jumpbuck
to drink at that billabong.
Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee.
And he sang as he stuffed
that jumpbuck in his tucker-bag.
You'll come a waltzing matilda with me.

Chourus

Up rode the Squater
mounted on his thoroughbred.
Down came the troopers 1 2 3
"Where's that jolly jumpbuck
you've got in your tuckerbag?"
You 'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.

Chourus

Up Jumped the swagman
and sprang into that billabong.
"You'll never catch me alive!" said he.
And his ghost may be heard
as you pass by that billabong
You'll come a waltzing matilda with me.

Home Amongst the Gum Trees

I've been around the world
a couple times or maby more.
I've seen the sights and had delights
on every forgen shore.
But when my friends all ask me,
the place that I adore.
I tell them right away.

Chourus
Oh, give me a home amongst the gum trees
with lots of plum trees.
A sheep or two and a kangaroo.
A clothesline out the back,
a veranda out the front,
and an old rocking chair.

You'll find me in the kitchen cooking up a roast
or veggimite on toast.
Just you and me
and a cup of tea.
And later on we'll settle down
and mull upon the porch,
and watch the possums play.
