Running

For many years now I have been an avid runner. When I'm not participating in Track or Cross Country, I'm running on my own, competing in road and trail races, or Orienteering, one of the single most unique sports known to man. I always try to apply my running philosophy to the rest of my life as well, pushing my physical and mental limits to the complete maximum.

Cross Country

Running

For four years now I have been a highly participatory member of our school's cross country team. I have always tried to work as hard as I can, not only to do well in my personal season, but to make the sport enjoyable for everyone involved. I have been able to do this much more effectively over the past two years when I was elected to be one of the team captains. Our coach has a "hands off" philosophy when it comes to running, so the captains are usually left to do much of the planning and coordinating for the team. We coordinate all of the fundraisers, all of the team events, all of the summer practices, all of the winter meetings, and all of the attendance, paperwork, uniforms, and warm-ups, and also lead the team in all of the workouts and practices.

Track & Field

Running

The middleschool track team was the first place I became interested in running. After a dissapointing year in which I gave sprinting a try, I joined the distance team in eighth grade and had an amazing year. Ever since I have always looked forward to the track season in the spring. This past year I have been elected to be one of the captains, and look forward to filling that place next year. My personal

Orienteering

Orienteering

Last year I found the new sport of Orienteering. Orienteering combines running skill with the ability to read a map and navigate quickly. After the runner is given a map with up to twenty points marked on it, he must reach all of the points in order as fast as he can. Last year I moved up from the middle of the JV field to winning multiple Varsity meets. This year I look forward to the new season, and hope to make it all the way to the national competition in the spring.

Road Racing

Running

With Orienteering, Cross Country, and Track, I'm generally set for races and competitions. During the summer months however, I generally have to fend for myself for races. I am very lucky to live in an area with plenty of trail races and road races within a quick drive from my house. These have been a lot of fun for me, and a great way for me to experience some of the longer distances without interfering with my training. I have run seven half marathons and countless other small races within the past three years.
