Day 48
The rains and clouds of yesterday dissipated in the warm fingers of the new sunrise. Heading west we dipped into New York for a short trek to the Seaway International Bridge.
From the heights overlooking the St. Lawrence, Sarah announced "I no take a bath there !" Then we followed Route 2 along the scenic waterfront.
The afternoon took us to Fort Wellington, a british stronghold from the War of 1812. |

The kids enjoyed racing from cannon to cannon, going down the long tunnel to the outer fortifications, and especially throwing cannonballs at us from the play fort in the museum. |
Back on the road, we continued west to our campground. We arrived in time to go for a swim in the pool, do a load of laundry, and make friends with a very affectionate stray cat we called Salami, who made short work of our dinner leftovers. |
