Day 23-

Taking the scenic route, we traveled across the southern shore of Lake Erie. Just before Cleveland, we turned due south towards Akron.

Slightly northwest of Akron, we stopped in the town of Bath, to visit the Hale Farm and Village.

This section of the country was originally a part of the "Western Reserve" of Connecticut whose charter from the King granted them the land within their latitude as far as the western ocean.

The Village had many active crafts people. In addition to the blacksmith and broommaker, we saw candlemaking, basketweaving, and glassblowing. Women were also engaged in spinning and weaving. The kids were mostly captivated by the lady in one farmhouse who was baking cookies and let them each try one.

Leaving the 1840's behind, we headed northeast to Andover for a night's rest (and a playground.)
