Day 12-

Sunrise saw no sign of last nights wild weather so we once again set off into the black hills. Heading south today, our first stop was the Mammoth Site in the town of Hot Springs. Sam and Sarah, the young Paleontologists, had a chance to explore the site of an ancient sinkhole, where 50 mammoths plus 27 other species, have been found.

They even got to uncover some bones in a sandpit and then identify them by matching them to a chart.

Continuing our science theme, we visited Wind Cave and took a 1/2 mile cave tour that included 350 stairs (mostly down). Being Sarah's pack mule, I was treated to her version of the cave tour "Whoa, Whoa", "I SCARED", "Duck you head", and "BIG stairs."

Driving north through Wind Cave National Park and Custer State Park we were treated to views of bison, prarie dog towns, and coyotes on the hunt. Returning to our base at Hart Ranch gave us an evening with time for laundry (Mom) and mini-golf (Dad, Sam and Sarah).
