Day 11-

A day to explore the Black Hills. First stop was Mount Rushmore, truly and impressive site, especially with the new Avenue of Flags and President's Trail, both of which just opened this year. Lunch was procured at the on-site restaurant with a view of the four faces.

Next stop was the Crazy Horse Memorial, a work in progress. While the upclose views that we had at Mount Rushmore were not available here, the scope of the project was most impressive. Look closely and you'll see the face (profile) and a drawing of where the horse scupture will be. The hole you see in the rock is the same size as George Washington's head at Mt.Rushmore, so you can get an idea of the size of this thing.

Next it was time to test the metal of the RV against the Iron Man Road. The pigtail bridges, sheer rock tunnels, and hairpin turns kept us on the edge of our seats.

Needing a break from driving, we opted to test our own skill by taking on the outdoor Maze. Led by Sam, we made our way to the 4 towers, collecting stamps of the 4 presidents on Mt. Rushmore. After 58 minutes of tough trekking, we emerged elated and hungry. Here's a picture of Sam and Sarah taking a break in the middle of the maze before continuing on.

Our lullaby here in the hill country - a summer thunderstorn - provided us a light show before bed and then the patter of raindrops until we slept.
