Day 9-

We put the RV to the test today. Leaving Cody, we headed north via alt-14 across the Bighorn National Recreation Area and through the Bighorn Mountains via Medicine Wheel Pass - a climb from 3,000 to 10,000 feet. The snow level at the top was higher than the RV in places. Going up was slow but exciting. The way down had the brakes warmed up, but a little downshifting kept us on track.

Entering Montana, we traversed the Crow Indian Reservation to visit the Little Bighorn Battlefield site.

The visit left us with more questions than answers. The version of the story fed to us in history lessons varies more and more from the actual occurances. Custer appears more as an arrogant man in search of glory, and the native tribes seem more a people pushed to the brink of tolerance by a greedy invading government.

Skipping up the highway to Hardin, a stop at the local KOA found the kids their requisite playground to make their day complete.

We bid them goodnight in the spreading rays of a Big Sky sunset.
