Day 4 -

Following our backward trek of the Oregon Trail, we continued through Idaho. After leaving the Snake River, the first stop of the day was Register Rock. This spot was a favorite camping site of the Oregon Trail emigrants. Many of them carved their names or initials into the rocks of the area to record their passage.

After this we parted ways with the trail and struck out to the north to explore the Lava Hot Springs. A warm soak was a welcome respite from the mountain driving. Sarah, in her usual exuberance, was the most enthusiastic swimmer.

Continuing northeast, we passed through Soda Springs and then took the scenic route through Caribou National Forest to our campsite in Thayne, WY. An early arrival here gave the kids a chance to blow off some steam at the playground.
